It’s officially transfer portal season. The first day saw a record-breaking number of student-athletes entering their names to transfer—once again setting new highs. This information will be updated as new details emerge.
WHO STAYS
Let’s begin with who’s staying. The list of Gophers expected to return is short, but there are a few key names that could be important for Niko Medved’s first year at the helm.
Isaac Asuma – The point guard from Cherry has confirmed he’s coming back. Keeping Asuma was the top priority from the current roster, and he was quick to commit to Medved. He’ll return for his sophomore season and is expected to be one of the stronger point guards in the conference.
Grayson Grove – The 6’9” forward from Alexandria is also set to return after redshirting last season.
A few other potential returners remain uncertain. It’s unclear whether Brennan Rigsby has any remaining eligibility, and there’s still a question mark around whether Dawson Garcia might somehow secure a sixth year.
Kai Shinholster – He stands as the only freshman recruit who has remained committed to the program following Ben Johnson’s departure.
WHO GOES
Here’s a look at the departures from the Gophers roster as the transfer portal activity heats up:
Frank Mitchell – The “Tank” is heading to the Atlantic 10, where he’ll suit up for St. Bonaventure.
Kadyn Betts – Betts has entered the portal and already found a new home at Montana.
Tyler Cochran – He’s in the portal but has not announced a destination yet.
Brennan Rigsby – Rigsby is transferring to Radford.
Jacob Ross – The incoming freshman has requested to be released from his letter of intent and will not be joining the program.
Parker Jefferson – Another incoming freshman big man who has also asked out of his letter of intent.
Dawson Garcia – The veteran forward has entered the portal, signaling a potential end to his time with the Gophers.
